What is the Community Empowerment Act?

The Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015, is a bill that was introduced by the Scottish Government to give community bodies more rights and public bodies more duties to allow communities to have their voices heard in the planning and delivery of services.

What are the benefits of  Community Empowerment?

The Community Empowerment Act adds to community planning, allowing communities to have more say in how public services are planned and provided, gives communities new rights to identify needs in their communities and request action to be taken on these. It also extends the rights of communities to buy or have greater control over assets.

When does the Act come in to force?

Different parts of the Act are likely to come into force at different times due to the requirement for secondary legislsation, consultations and guidance to come into effect. The current expectation is that the full Act will come into force late summer 2016.
